Ghost Pipes, 10 x 10 inches, embroidery and acrylic on canvas, 2022, Monotropa uniflora, also called Ghost Pipe and sometimes Corpse Plant does not require direct energy from the sun. Instead, this plant is parasitic and lives of mycorrhizal fungi, enabling it to live in dark parts of the forest, such as the understory. As a result, it lacks chlorophyll, leading to its glowing white visual quality. I find this peculiar plant intriguing, for its otherworldly qualities and see it as a symbol of the liminal.
